About the Artist

Shirley Charlton is an international artist and professional tutor, based in Brisbane, Australia. As well as painting she teaches courses and workshops with Adult Education and holds Certificate IV.

Shirley was born in Malawi, in central Africa. She studied at the Technical Art College overseas and her art qualifications include graduate diplomas from the Open college of Arts in London, as well as the Paris School of Arts.

With many exhibitions, awards and sales to her name, she has also judged a number of shows. Her original paintings are in big demand and can be seen in collections around the world.

Shirley's love for the sea and water comes through in her watercolours, while her figure painting and pastels show magic, vibrant strokes.

She has demonstrated and taught painting for many schools and institutions, including the USQ McGregor Schools, as well as the Watercolour Society of Queensland. Shirley has had articles on painting published in the Australian Artist Magazine and the Quest Magazine overseas.

With her ability to paint from her heart she is helping people in Malawi. All the funds from the sale of her paintings go to Papalala za Ongwala (On the Wings of an Eagle Christian Family), which provides help to those in hospital and prisons without food.
